Platte and that billing software IV: www.plattehelp.com

A lot of people are visiting this blog via search engines because they are not able to connect to www.plattehelp.com to download their uninstall software. At the time of posting, this link will take you directly to the download. However, you are very strongly advised to read all my posts relating to this software, since you will need to take further measures to ensure its complete removal.

If you find the link no longer works, it would be very helpful if you leave a comment to that effect.

My experience with Platte is never to be repeated. I thought the free trial was five days but it is three.I had a bill as a consequence and in spite of trying to get Platte to waive this my pleas fell on stony ground. I recieved a letter from them giving all the uninstall codes but trying to access www.plattehelp.com also fell on stony ground.I finally got out from under by paying the bill and accessing their website through your latest blog. I must say that your blogs were very helpful. In future I will have to read the small print more carefully!
Regards Peter.

It's nice to find someone who actually admits a degree of responsibility for downloading the software; I'm afraid though that had you ended your membership before the three days were up your experience would have been little different other than that you would not have been £30 the lighter.
It's difficult to know what use Platte intend to make of all the contact details that they are putting such effort into obtaining, but I do think that people who have had the software on their PC should consider its entire content compromised and think carefully through any private information that they store on it (banking details and the suchlike).
I will be putting up a further post soon on general computer security and you may find it helpful.

i too have just removed platte from my pc with the aid of your blogsight.unfortunately, i paid them thinking it would get rid of them -no chance.no-one in this house installed the software,so how does it get there?they sent a letter explaining when it was loaded, but we didnt. hopefully this is the end of it or do you think i should inform my bank i have paid by debit card?

Anonymous (from earlier today)

Firstly I should say that someone has deliberately installed the Platte software on your computer, whether you have identified them or not. It is normally possible to recover the browser logs (IE, Firefox, or whoever). These show which user account was in use at the time and the route taken to the Platte site. If you do not know how to do this yourself you could get a professional to do it for you if you want to get to the bottom of the mystery.

The history is stored in index.dat files, older ones can be recovered using Recuva. There is lots of free software for reading these files, the easiest to use is IEHistoryView (http://iehistoryview.findmysoft.com/)

If you have already paid Platte and told them you are closing the account then they clearly have no claim against you providing your computer is not used to access their site again. Whether you trust them with your debit card details is a matter for your own judgement; you might decide that it's safer to get your bank to issue a new card.

So i rang these people and they said i went onto a site which they said porn and i put in all the details so i asked them what time it occured well they said early hours of the morning 02.05am i said that could have not been me due to me doing 8pm - 8am shifts.Ive recieved the codes but they arent getting no money out of me.

Hi Stephen, I too have been sent a demand for £29,99 and when I contacted Platte to query the demand I was told that I had signed up for films, which is totally untrue, I told them that I wasn't paying them a penny, that I hadn't asked for the service, and they could do whatever they wanted to do and now they have put the matter in the hands of a collection agent. Oriel, I assume now that they will come and smash my door down. It's rather worrying that they are allowed to do this how does the law stand on these threats

William, I don't possess the sort of legal expertise required to answer your question. You should visit the MBS /Platte Media Victims Forum (linked in the sidebar) for discussion of that sort of question. However, as far as I am aware Platte Media have not yet taken anyone to court, and I find it somewhat unlikely that they would do so.

I've said several times in my posts and I'll repeat here that I have looked very carefully at the Platte software installing, and I do not believe it is possible for this to happen without the person installing it knowing what they are doing. If as a computer owner you haven't installed it, then someone else did. It is best to check the browser history logs for each user account on your PC to see what pages were visited at the time of installation. The easiest software to use for this is IE HistoryView which is downloaded here:http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/iehv.html , there is an alternative download for Mozilla there too. This should be used within 30 days of the installation, otherwise you will probably need to use additional software to recover the older logs.

Hi. I "run" this thing from a site that said FREE. I made the huge mistake of not reading the Terms. As I had no thought that there would be costs involded as I said that I ran it from a site that FREE and there was no "Go this other site" type thing. I watched quick clips of 7 vids (Im only human LoL) in the space of afew minutes. I Phoned and explained this to the cold stone hearted very rude people at Platte and got nothing but a brick wall, and to also be told that I was a lier (yes he did!!). I said that he could full well c that I had not watched any more videos after the cancellation period and that had I known that it was to be paid for I wouldnt have botherd to run it because why pay for it when I can do it 100x's better than watching the rubbish. This company is disgraceful. Anyway..........How do I get on the Un-install this rubbish thing if I cant remember my 4 didit code rubbish?. Have I got to spend another small fortune ringing the rude people again to get it??. Thanks alot for any help. :-)

Stephen said...

Lou, You do not need to remember your original four digit code, but you will need Platte to send you an uninstall code, so you will need to phone them again. They will I'm afraid want their money, but there's no such thing as 'free' porn.

It isw of course possible to remove the software yourself if you have some basic computing expertise, but that does not negate any debt you may have to Platte.

Anonymous said...

Oh trust me, of corse theres such thing as free porn. Iv seen and got plenty of it. But anyway...... I have got an uninstall code I supose I'll just have to phone them back up again then and get that 4 didgit number crap. Thanks for the reply anyway. Louise. :-)

hi there i too tried to get shafted by the platte a**holes. what a pain, entrapment i would say ,i phoned them, and they told me i was due them £30,i told them they would never get a penny from me,and told them if they try to take in any further i will be getting tradeing standards involved, anyway used your link to get their rubbish off my pc,cheers

Platte are fully regulated by the OFT, and their entire process is, regretably, completely legal and above board. The pop ups can ONLY be installed on your PC by accessing and signing up to their site. Cut your losses and pay up, Platte have made damn sure they are on the rigt side of the law.

Thank you very much for this advice on how to get rid of the Platte billing; if I had followed the instruction letter they had sent I would still be at it a week from Tuesday.
I will admit I did look during the free trial but didnt read the terms. I have contacted them and will write to plead my case as I cannot pay what they want. I feel justified as I never actually downloaded any films, but I will await their response.
Thank you again for your help.

steve, thankyou thankyou very much,i'd like to kick platte international in the crutch, you've been a great help.

This company is unbelievable. The site appeared on my computer whilst I was away on holiday at Christmas. My laptop was at home under lock, key and burglar alarm. When I contacted them the charge was waived but I had to prove I was abroad at the time. I am still having difficulty with them, am thinking of going legal.
