Platte: the uninstaller

Today I've had two emails from the helpful people at Platte International Customer Relations. The first told me that they are now downloading their installer from the link I provided for the uninstall utility in earlier posts; but no sooner had I put up this post to flag it up than they email again to say that they'd got it wrong. So it appears that at this point in time the uninstaller is still available via this link. If you use it and find it doesn't work, please post a comment here to that effect, and I'll look into it.

I too have had this stupid invoice posted to my computer, I actually switch of my computer every night and switch of my broadband service, but apparently at 17minutes past 4 on 2 November in the morning I installed this software, I don't think so. I am 58 years of age and a grandmother and would not get up at 17minutes past 4 in the morning unless my house was on fire. I also rang them and they gave me the same spiel, they sent me an uninstall code but am reluctant to use it, as it seems it only uninstalls some of the software, i will not be paying the bill and they can swivel. Apparently the court orders they send out are false, and this company if anyone has noticed is registered in the british virgin islands but allthe telephone operators are from south africa and their UK address is a PO Box no. So DONT PAY AND IGNORE THEM THEY HAVE SCAMMED YOU I have been on numerous sites now that have said it is a SCAM. They should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves and no one should pay.

I have looked very carefully at this software, and it convinced that is not possible for it to be installed other than knowingly. So if you didn't install it, someone else gained access to your computer and did. It suggests that you had visitors, invited or otherwise.

In these circumstances, you might wish to get a PC professional to recover your browser logs since these will confirm that your computer was in use at the time and the URLs for all the pages that were viewed.

I doubt if the current Platte Media uninstall tool is unsafe, althoughy the last one I tested still left some files behind. I am sure it is far safer to use their uninstaller than leave their full software intact on your PC.

If you are using a professional to recover your browser logs you may wish to get them to remove the software for you; show them my file list and they should be able to achieve a complete removal within a few minutes.

Removing Platte's software does not alter the financial liability taken on by the person who installed it; whether that liability transfers to the unwitting owner of a computer is unclear but I very much doubt it. I have no legal expertise in these matters however.
